While it may seem like a minor issue on the surface, any accident involving more than two vehicles can result in a complex web of overlapping insurance policies, severely-delayed claims, and a smaller pool of money available to compensate the victims for their losses.

Liability is often complex with multi-vehicle wrecks. Unless you act quickly, you could be left in the cold when it comes to compensation.

Claims adjusters spend most of their day investigating insurance claims by collecting statements, consulting police and hospital records, inspecting property damage, and looking at how similar claims have played out in the past. The only thing is, they’re only looking at it from one side. Their ONLY goal is to save the insurance company money by paying out as little as possible on every single claim.

In a perfect world, insurance companies would simply pay victims what they're owed following a serious car accident. Unfortunately, insurance adjusters often unfairly deny claims, blatantly lie to claimants, and will use every trick in the book to skirt liability.

Drunk driving accidents are a serious concern across the country, and especially in Texas. Not only have we spent millions of dollars on awareness campaigns and toughened criminal penalties, but courts in Texas have also started holding irresponsible bars, restaurants, and similar establishments civilly liable for failing to responsibly serve alcohol.

The Texas Dram Shop Act was passed to hold alcohol-serving businesses civilly liable for drunk driving accidents when patrons were illegally over-served.

From police reform to legalized gambling and alcohol sales to digital license plates, here’s a small sampling of the bills filed during Texas’ 87th legislative session.

Nearly 10,000 potential new Texas laws were filed in this year's legislative session. Let’s take a look at some of the more-interesting ones.

From the "hot coffee" lawsuit to the woman who sued her nephew over an aggressive hug, the headlines are designed to make us groan—but what’s really driving this type of news coverage?

In many cases, a so-called frivolous lawsuit actually does have merit. It might look ridiculous to you after reading a two-paragraph article, but remember that these stories are often intentionally framed in a particular light in order to grab attention and invoke a reaction.

The bill’s language would essentially shift liability from the company to drivers who may not have the financial means to fully compensate plaintiffs. It may also prevent certain information about a company’s past accident history from being introduced as evidence. So if jurors wanted to know whether a company required drivers to undergo safety training; do routine maintenance on its trucks; or if the company’s drivers have a habit of getting into wrecks, it could be inadmissable.

HB 19’s sponsors say the bill will prevent excessive lawsuits against companies, but road safety advocates say the bill would make Texas roads more dangerous and prevent victims of crashes from receiving justice.

A federal appeals court on Tuesday ruled that Snapchat can be sued in a case in which a young man used the app's "speed filter" feature before a fatal crash.

A federal appeals court on Tuesday issued a stunning ruling: It said a decades-old legal shield preventing platforms from lawsuits should not apply to Snapchat in a case involving a fatal car crash.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, more than 600 people die in #Texas every year in large truck crashes. HB 19, which is being sponsored by State Rep. Jeff Leach of Plano, would be disastrous for those victims' families.

A Texas House bill is drawing criticism from families of loved ones injured in trucking accidents, but supporters say it would cut down on frivolous lawsuits.

While we would hope that all motorists would be truthful and straightforward about the facts leading up to a serious collision, the truth is that many drivers will flat-out lie in order to shield themselves from liability. This is particularly true if they may have broken the law or depend on a clean driving record for employment.

It’s no surprise that drivers lie in order to avoid responsibility for a crash, but it’s shocking how often investigators rely on a trucker’s testimony.

Texas law prohibits texting while driving, with criminal penalties ranging from fines to potential jail time. Yet despite its strict laws on distracted driving, the use of smart phones while driving continues to be a leading cause of car accidents in our state.

If the driver who caused your car accident was texting while driving, it’s usually going to be your word against theirs...

We see it all the time. Someone gets into an accident, but they feel as though their soreness, bumps, and bruises don’t necessitate a visit to the doctor. They attempt to negotiate a settlement with the insurance company, and several months down the line, the adjuster flat out denies their injury claim. While it may not seem important to seek medical attention as soon as possible following a car accident, the truth is that failing to do so gives the insurance company every reason to deny your claim. Not only is the burden on you to prove that your injuries were caused by the crash, but failing to get checked out by a doctor could be considered a failure in your legal duty to mitigate damages.

Though you may want to tough it out after a car accident, seeking medical attention is extremely important when it comes to your health and potential claim.

Back and neck injuries are not always immediately apparent after an accident, and most people assume that they can tough out what may initially seem to be a minor strain. The truth is that a car accident can easily lead to soft tissue injuries that take days to develop—and may come with years of chronic pain.

The force of an auto accident can cause significant damage to a person’s back and neck as the result of whiplash, lumbar sprains, and disc herniation.

The practice of bypassing insurers to pursue full charges from accident victims’ settlements has become routine in major health systems across the country.

Hospitals use century-old lien laws to bypass insurers and charge patients, especially poorer ones, the full amount.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), people are more-likely to be injured by someone running a red light (or stop sign) than any other type of accident. If the facts of your accident are in dispute (e.g., the other driver claims they had a green light) and there are no unbiased witnesses to back up your version of the story, it’s important that you speak to an attorney as soon as possible.

Most red-light-related car accidents are caused by drivers who are either distracted, speeding excessively, or trying to beat a yellow light.

Nursing home facilities across 14 states, where more than 650 residents died, have argued they should be immune from wrongful death cases - an early sign of how the PREP Act could be used by a range of businesses to fend off lawsuits resulting from the pandemic.

Garnice Robertson wants accountability for her mother's death from COVID-19 caught while she was living at a Kansas nursing home that allegedly failed to prevent an outbreak of the disease. An unexpected legal hurdle stands in her way.

The COVID-19 suspension of jury trials will likely have an impact on courts for years to come due to the back-up of court dockets. Most cases usually settle in about a year, but because there is no fear of trial, there is no pressure on the insurance company to settle right now.

The Constitution guarantees the accused a right to a fair and speedy trial, but it has been almost a year since jury trials have taken place regularly across Texas.

Commercial trucks generally have insurance policies worth over $1 million—and for good reason. Unfortunately, this means that the insurance company and their adjusters are far more aggressive in defending their insured and fighting your claim.
